Learning to Let Go….

I’m realising that I’m not very good at letting go of the lovely wraps and slings that I’m chopping and sewing.  Today I made a gathered shoulder ring sling out of the most beautiful Oscha Starry Night Lewis. This wrap really looks so much better in real life and I’m very very very tempted to keep it!  But I know I can’t keep all of the lovely slings that pass through my house and so this one will be my lesson in letting go….. I really hope that the mama who gets it loves it too!

Gorgeous Greys

This week I’ve been lucky enough to chop a beautiful Oscha 100% Linen Midnight Gradation. It’s been turned into a lovely pleated ring sling with slate rings and a short wrap too!

There may be more….. stars!

Ok, so I realise that this particular wrap has featured strongly in my wrap-converting escapades recently, but I promise that (unless someone sends me another one for conversion) this is the last …… for now at least 😉

So far I’ve converted Oscha Starry Night Forget Me Not into a mei tai and into 3 pleated ring slings with SBP, my symmetrical and my asymmetrical pleated styles.  To make a change, and so that all 4 of my SN FMN ring slings are unique, this particular ring sling is gathered 😀

I’m sure most people know or can imagine a gathered ring sling from the outside, but this is what my gathered ring slings look like from the inside…… All raw edges are fully enclosed securely inside the seam… very neat and satisfying!

My “Sky Tai” Wrap Conversion Mei Tai

Now I’m getting serious!  After many months of planning, pattern making, sketching and testing of various different carriers with all sorts of different features, and looking at photos of other brands to make sure I’m not inadvertently copying anyone, my finalised design for my ideal Wrap Conversion Mei Tai has now become reality!

And here it is! 😀

Here is my new, toddler sized wrap tai made from an Oscha Alto Bluebell and an Oscha Starry Night Forget Me Not.  It has pleated, unpadded wrap straps and wrap fabric waist straps with light padding at the hips. The body panel is flat to aid a snug, wrap-like fit, but the straps are angled to encourage excellent seating position of baby inside the carrier.

The appliqued reversible hood is fully detachable, fastening to the carrier body and shoulder straps using adjustable toggled ties.

The sides of the hood are lightly elasticated to mould around baby’s head and it has an internal roll of padding to act as a neck/head support even when the hood isn’t up (great for those babies who don’t like things covering their heads). You can also roll the hood up completely for a more streamlined neck support.

I’m really so pleased with how this has turned out and so excited to have a gorgeous new carrier to play with! 😀

Wrap-tai Teaser Pics :)

I’ve been planning a wrap conversion mei tai for a loooong time and this week have finally got the chance to start sewing. This is a much-needed toddler carrier for our own family use, so this is a treat for me in more ways than one. It’s been such a satisfying process seeing all my research, planning and pattern-making being made into a real carrier, and so fulfilling to be sewing a carrier that requires more effort and less “instant” gratification than a ring sling. I’m not quite finished yet but couldn’t resist taking some teaser photos before I put it to bed for the night 😀

Petrol Hemp Pleats

Today I had the chance to sew a lovely and airy Didymos Petrol Hemp Indio. A pleated ring sling and a size 3 wrap out of the same size 7 wrap 🙂

I love hempy wraps and the way they soften up so beautifully and buttery. This one still feels fairly new, but I know it’ll be dreamily soft before too long 🙂

Anniversary Roses

It’s a week early, but I’ve made a cheeky little wedding anniversary present to myself. Here’s a beautiful Oscha Roses Ember woven wrap made into a pleated ring sling.

Oscha’s design for this wrap was inspired by Mackintosh roses, indirectly significant to us because my husband’s business is designing and making bespoke doors and these roses regularly appear in his stained glass designs. I love the deep richness of the red and black (suits my Scorpio side) and the slightly gothic effect of using the black rings 😀

Delicate Star Pleats

I was lucky enough to be asked to re-do the shoulder on a gorgeous Oscha Starry Night Thrift. This really is such a beautiful wrap and I really hope it’s owner loves the new shoulder!

Nansei Gathered Ring Sling

Here’s a Natibaby Nansei – a wide, supportive and airy linen blend wrap – made into a simple gathered ring sling with large blue sling rings to complement the stripes. I can feel that this wrap will soften up beautifully with use and will be lovely and supportive sling for bigger babies and toddlers 🙂

Lovely Linen Irises

Today I was asked to convert a gorgeous linen/cotton Natibaby Irises wrap into a ring sling using my symmetrical pleated style; it’s such a lovely, warm soft wrap and I’m looking forward to seeing it in action 😀
